This site is dedicated to the power of the seemingly simple phrase '... don't know, but ...'.
Using this phrase opens up possibilities like:

  • I don't know, but I'll find out
  • I don't know, but let's figure it out together
  • I don't know, but let's take some time to make sure of this

Its power lies in opening up a process, rather than closing it down.

Government Openness and Accountability

We should be insisting on honesty and integrity from our politicians, as well as complete openness.

Where did this idea of core promises and non-core promises come from and why the hell do we let them get away with it?

Why do we let them hide so much behind Freedom of Information denials or label information as covered by security concerns or whatever?

What happened to having our elected representatives accept responsibility and resign when they screw up?

Principles that should guide all government

  1. Politicians represent us
  2. Government is on our behalf
  3. As our servants, they are accountable to us
  4. Being accountable to us, they have no rights of secrecy from us
  5. The only exception is operational secrecy for only as long as absolutely necessary
  6. No excuses of confidentiality and privacy apply to government actions on our behalf. If it is on our behalf, we have the RIGHT to know. If it is not on our behalf, government should not be doing it.
